Import only digitally remastered two CD collection. 36 tracks by this British band has announced its official dissolution in early 2007. iginally formed at the tail end of the 80′s by former Housemartins member Paul Heaton (vocals) and David Hemingway (drums / vocals) The Beautiful South became a hit-making machine in Europe with songs that contain witty and / or thought provoking lyrics wrapped inside a lush cover semi-acoustic jazzy and soulful music .. Virtually all of their hits are featured here, including "I’ll Sail This Ship Alone”Rotterdam (Anywhere) ‘,’ Song For Whoever ‘,’ Do not marry her, ‘" Old Red Eyes Is Back’, ‘Good As Gold ( stupid as mud) ‘Liar Bar’ and many others. The band may be gone, but his music lives on! Universal.
Annotator Daryl EASL begins his liner notes to the southern entrance of the beautiful in Universal Music International discount price of Gold series of double CD compilations commenting on the surprising fact that the biggest selling album in the UK in the 1990s was the group 1994 hits collection Carry On Up the charts, so it is important to note that all 14 tracks on the disc which are repeated among the 36 on this one. (In the U.S. a range of 15 was added in Carry On Up the Charts a cover of "Dream a Little Dream of Me". Song that is not contained here) EASL ends his essay with a description of Gold as "Packed with all their greatest hits and album tracks from their first decade, "a statement that is only true if you do not count the missing" pretenders to the throne "(which reached number 18 in the UK)" How Long is the dry one tear Take "(Number 12) and" The River / Just Checkin ‘"(number 59), all three, not coincidentally, no doubt, are included in the 2002 Solid Bronze: Great Hits. This album was criticized at the time of its release as a collection of imperfect monitoring for Carry on Up the graphics and Gold, which besides being incomplete is randomly sequenced is not ideal. Probably, one can not blame that on the group who fled their original label Go! Records in 2003, after Universal had acquired in 1998. Even if some favorites are missing but gold is still a good meeting of what is arguably some of the most popular British pop music of the 1990s (and given black-humored Paul Heaton of letters that is saying something) presented a reasonable price. (These statements of course apply mostly to Britain. The album was not released in the U.S., where the high-profile South Bonito never was virtually nonexistent in 2006.) ~ William Ruhlmann
